About Me

I live in my own home in PB and have lived here since I was 5, except for 23 years in apartments in Mission Valley.  Was a scoutmaster and taught canoeing for 19 years.  I volunteer at the Pacific Southwest Railroad Museum in Campo for the last 27 years.

I became an engineer in 1989 and worked for CZRy for 6 months running freight, mostly sand with a several trips from Campo to Tijuana taking empty hopper cars to Garcia, swapping a engine full of fuel for one needing fuel.  And I ran over a dozen work train in to Carrizzo Gorge to tunnel 16 over Goat Canyon Trestle to open the Gorge for freight service and road the first freight through the Gorge.

I have taken steam trips to Equador, Brazil, and Poland as well as most of the major routes on Amtrak.  Rode 3751 to the Grand Canyon.  I operated 2353 for the 5-6 years it was operational after helping resort her.

G'day Jack from Australia,, I'm envious of your experiences....I've only been on one steam train once... We do have several scenic trips in Tasmania , most famous the ABT on the West Coast of our island State.. All freight here but Hobart (capital city) is looking at running tourist orientated light rail in next few years.. TASRAIL competes against trucking companies but our state has only 550,000 it's tough.. Long history though.. I'm fascinated by US rail services and in particular BNSF...or anything related to ATSF/SF.. Keen to aquire contacts in the USA..Hope you'd like to sometime... Thanks/Cheers Rod McG..
